About us

Present day J. P. Baldacchino and Co. Ltd. and sister property-owning company ASB Holdings Ltd. had their humble origin as one man’s determined excursion into the commercial arena, way back in 1959. Then, Anthony Baldacchino, with the assistance of two casual workers, procured from local manufacturers and old-established merchants, goods in significant quantities, reselling them on attractive credit terms, to retailers and even directly to consumers.

About us

Alert market acumen, hard work, prompt delivery and a reputation for fair dealing, were the opportune ingredients that stimulated the steady expansion of the business.   Within a decade J P Baldacchino was importing goods on its own account, directly from overseas suppliers, always watchful for win-win opportunities, whereby profit for the Company was coupled to real benefits and convenience for the client.

The sustained growth in activity was both cause and effect in the quest for more ambitious ventures, and in these latter decades, the list of clients of the Company included the shipyards, government departments, parastatal entities, bulk stockholders and project contractors.   J P Baldacchino was now employing on a full-time basis storehouse and delivery men aswell office personnel.   In 1974, the business was duly registered as a limited liability company.

Increased trading called for better and more ample accommodation.    In 1980, the Company’s activity was transferred to an ad hoc complex built on land bought by the Company on the Ghaxaq By-pass, comprising three spacious warehouses and adequate offices rooms.   Through this, and other development the wholesale division was organized to cover the entire islands of Malta and Gozo, while the role as representatives for overseas suppliers was enhanced to a point where it became the core of the business.

On reaching manhood, (and through obdurate training), the three sons of the founder of the firm were handed over the administration of the Company.

For twenty-five years the firm operated from the Ghaxaq site, but continued expansion and a modernised modus operandi induced the administration to opt for a more dynamic arrangement optimising both the accessible footprint space and the human resources.    After three years of construction and preparation, the “Ferrum House” premises, situated on the outskirts of Gudja, was inaugurated.    The new site covers an area of five-thousand square metres.    Complete relocation of a significant portion of stored materials and all administrative and bureaucratic functions happened in September 2005.

Throughout the years, J P Baldacchino pursued a policy of acquiring a noteworthy portfolio of real property, which in unison with the obtaining market trends, made the diversification into the property sector a quasi-consequential development.

The Directors of J P Baldacchino are the brothers John, Dennis and Adrian Baldacchino, while their father, Anthony Baldacchino, retains the Chairmanship of the Company.

Even though the Company today employs twenty persons, it is still run on a family-business pattern, where employer-employee optimal relationships are cherished as the number one plus-point --- a close second, is the accomplishment of the absolute and complete satisfaction of the client.
